VOLUME 5, ISSUE 4 ![]() IN THIS ISSUE With the winter rains setting in, the May edition of The Anchorage is here to light up the fires of your imagination and kindle your support for the romping Variety Show we promised you in April. So it's curtains up, and spot-lights on our stars in ... "CENTRE STAGE"
CENTRE STAGE Anchor Players' winter production is in full swing! The audition brought a wealth of talent which is sure to delight you with well loved names. Phyllis Early, Aubrey Hindle and Jeff Batt along with a host of fresh new faces, compile a feast for the eye, the ear and the soul in an almost two hour long programme sixteen artistes and a live trio performing twenty-one items. Surely nothing short of an EXTRAVAGANT WOW! Evergreen, modern and operatic songs from your favourite and beloved musicals and operas, Irish dancing to violin and flute, magic and puppetry, comedy and pathos. Laughter and tears and much more are being rehearsed under the novel direction of Belinda Batt, assisted by Jeff Batt, Albert Lintvelt and Lynn Moss. And what fun we're having; joy that we would like to share with you during our run of eight shows over two weekends, including matinées on Saturdays (see TO DIARISE for particulars). So the scene is set, theatrically speaking, with a stagey stage set designed by Belinda, and costumes by the talented Cecil Jakins. We also have a great trio of superb musicians suitably rearranging some 'old familiar score(s)' as in the famous song "I've heard that song before", indicative of exactly what you might be saying during our concert. What more can one ask? String along and be amazed at some bedazzling veterans and mindblowing newcomers combining their special talents and acts. Indeed a case of 'That's Entertainment' to be savoured by each and all like a mellow glass of port wine at your theatre spirit fire on a wintry False Bay night or matinée! There is simply no reason or excuse for not frolicking together in this Dock Yard Extravaganza.
Don't forget that members receive a R5 discount on seat prices Membership can be renewed at the door (R40 per single member, R50 per couple, R75 family).
WANT TO GET INVOLVED? We will need some of our willing members for 'Front of House' duties during the run of the show. If you would like to volunteer your services please contact any of the committee members.
PEOPLE Regrettably Dave Chaston has resigned his post on the committee due to family commitments, but the good news is that we welcome on board once again Nadine van der Bank, who takes over the Publicity/PRO portfolio. We wish Tony Stiglingh a painless recovery from his recent shoulder operation, and Aubrey Hindle from a minor knee op. Get into the swing again, soon guys! The relentless devotion in sorting and labelling our massive costume department was the gigantic farewell present from our departed stalwart sister pair, Colette and Claudine. As unobtrusively as they brought their backstage expertise and other menial services to our company in an always professional way, Colette Gilbert and Claudine Johnston departed on 27 April, albeit not in their roaring Beetle! We missed you even before you had gone, now we cry for what we have had. Blessings up there with your families in Gauteng, and keep on sparking so sparkingly ... putting even the Golden City's gold sparkle to shame.
