VOLUME 7, ISSUE 3 ANCHOR PLAYERS AGM 31 March 2004 TONIGHT Anchor Players ceased to exist as a functioning Dramatic Society. Its small remaining band of die-hard members were unwilling or unable to vote in a Chairman or Committee for the coming year at it's 2004 AGM as required by it's constitution. A committee turn-out of only 2 persons, starkly indicated the credibility of the committee. Outgoing Chairman Jeff Batt's declaration that there was not a quorum in attendance was refuted from the floor, and by a show of hands was shown to be several times in excess of the minimum requirement and the meeting proceeded. An address from the chairman outlined a difficult year in which his health, canceled production plans, lack of members support, and difficulties with a joint Anchor/Navy 'social investment outreach programme' all played a part. Lively responses from the audience indicated their interests lay in 'amateur theatre' and depleted resources did not make this presently possible. Despite his heated plea for continued support, the members in the face of a dismal financial report saw no reason in continuing. A call from the Chairman for the members to vote for a continuation of his planned production of 'Psychedelic Shack' by the Anchor Players Dramatic Society could not be supported in terms of the rules of the Society's constitution. The resolve of the members was that the Anchor Players Dramatic Society become dormant. In light of this, Hon. Treasurer Niel Beer gave some assurance that he would seek cancellation of a current office equipment contract, and of the payment of outstanding creditors. The AGM of 2004 was then closed. ONLY A GLIMMER OF LIGHT Since its inception in 1947, there has been at least one occasion, and possibly another when Anchor Players has drifted into the doldrums, only to be resurrected at a later date. It could be done again, but only by committed people who are willing to roll up sleeves, fund raise, and rebuild. There is a 375 seat theatre and the Players still own valuable assets. There is a huge wardrobe, a modern lighting desk, spots, sound equipment, trophies, cell phone and more. There will always be directors, actors, performers, support crews and willing hands to keep theatre alive. On the other hand, filling seats has become more and more difficult, and without an audience, no show can go on. If you have an interest in joining with others in recharging the Anchor Players, email the webmaster and your name will be placed on a mailing list which will be created and distributed to others of a like mind. ALBERT LINTVELT 1940-2004 Anchor Players are saddened to learn of the untimely and tragic death of committee member Albert Lintvelt. His enthusiastic presence and commitment to the theatre will be missed both on and off the stage. Farewell Albert. [ Prev Issue ] [ Next Issue ]
