IN THIS ISSUE

This spring, albeit late, rejuvenates us with a financial grant bestowed, a super forthcoming show, a bursary won by a committee member, new visions, future plans et al . . . a proper spring clean in short!

WCCC GRANT – REJOICE!

At an auspicious ceremony at the Artscape on 2nd instant, The Anchor Players received a beneficial grant from the Western Cape Cultural Commission. After an address by the Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sports, Mr Patrick McKenzie, Acting Chairman Jeff Batt who instigated and administered the application procedures, proudly received the substantial cheque for this financial year. An overwhelmed Jeff commented: "A wonderful opportunity for the future development of our society and all its members."

The welcome funds will mainly be applied to establish our own manned and fully equipped office close to the theatre. With the brand-new modern apparatus installed soonest possible, this venue will serve as a generator of exposure to our members and the media: truely an electric conduit of communication! This undertaking is thus our priority.

SHE'S ON HER WAY!

... the most beloved of all fairy tales ever is coming alive. Our endearing heroine's coach is galloping forth along the coast to merrily arrive at the ball: our bi-annual Xmas pantomime Cinderella.

Successful auditions on the very first day of springtime now has our creative director Belinda Batt blossoming with excitement about the multi-talented 36 member cast including veterans, newcomers and youngsters. Costume designer Cecil Jakins blooms about the flowery attires. John Blewitt's backing tracks gush forth fresh arrangements and sounds. Set builder Neil Beer is coming up with visual magic.

With rehearsals in full swing, an air of joy is slowly replacing the rainy clouds over False Bay in preparation of this spectacular production to delight young an old alike.

Behold one little snag: we urgently require 3 male singers to join the chorus! If you are able, then please be willing - or recommend talents with which you are familiar by phoning Belinda on 786 1468.

H E L P !

We are desperately in need of an experienced, reliable, hands-on Stage Manager for Cinderella, as well as set painters to assist in bringing real magic to stage. Any volunteers out there in your midsts? Or any suggestions as to whom to contact? Kindly phone Belinda on 786 1468 immediately.

INTER-SOCIETY QUIZ

The Inter-Society Quiz, hosted by the Gilbert & Sullivan Society takes place at the 'On-the-Side' at the Artscape Theatre on 17 November at 19h00. Interested members or parties should enquire through Lorna Hansen on 424.4665 or 083.700.4705.

PEOPLE

As a result of Mike Wilson's unfortunate back injury and subsequent operation, he had to stand down as Chairman of our society. We offer our sincere condolences and wish him a speedy recovery, also thanking him for his commendable and tireless efforts and inputs.

Vice-chairman Jeff Batt is thus standing in as Acting Chairman, with Neil Beer serving as Vice-chairman and Secretary – he ably and equally handles hammer and pen simultaneously!

She's got it! A stunning bursary has befallen our youngest committee member, Jennifer Moss. An all-round artiste (remember her flute playing, singing and acting in Centre Stage?) her combined talents did not escape the notice of the panel of judges examining the applicants on behalf of the Fish Hoek Bursary Trust.

An excited Jennifer will be using her grant for her music studies at the University of Cape Town or Stellenbosch in the forthcoming year.
