NAVY BAND CONCERT

There will be two performances, one at 6pm and the other at 8pm. The seats are not booked for this concert, so make sure you're not late! MORE CELLULITE, LESS SEQUINS a new show by Dianne Chandler

Yes folks, she’s back in Simon’s Town! This time she’s bigger and better with her new show that’s as dazzling as ever! This fresh cabaret performance has all the old favourites, delivered with style and pizzazz by the gorgeous Dianne Chandler. Broad-minded and fun, she takes a light hearted, humorous dig at her life and career as an entertainer, much married lady, and mother of two. Again she keeps the show bang up date, AND still performs the songs which made her a house-hold name. Watch out for bookings opening and catch this marvellous show on 2 November at the Theatre in the Dockyard at 8pm.

INTER-SOCIETY QUIZ

Being the runners-up of last year’s quiz, it is our turn to host this annual event. This year it’s going to be a stunner, a competitive yet fun evening’s entertainment for both the competitors and the audience. The entrance charge for each member of a participating team (max two teams per society) is R35 but audience members will be able to share the fun for R30. There’ll be music and food and drinks, so what are you waiting for? Join us on 16 November at the Theatre in the Dockyard and you wont be disappointed!

NUNSENSE

Rehearsals for this mammoth production are well under way, and we are pleased to announce that everything seems to be going well... touch wood! We are also happy to have found our fifth nun, Tracey Petersen, who will be playing Sister Mary Amnesia. The show is about five bubbly nuns each with their own point of view when it comes to being a nun. Sister Julia, the cook served a rather imaginative supper and ended up poisoning 52 nuns! They are presenting a benefit to bury the last 4 of the 52 botulism casualties. This musical comedy is hilarious and should not be missed. Performance dates for Nunsense at the Theatre in the Dockyard are 12 - 15 December. Watch this space for more info.

    MASKERADE

This, the third Terry Pratchett play to be premiered by our society in South Africa, was a dazzling fun-filled production for all involved. Although we had our fair share of troubles, we eventually had a talented cast and crew of all shapes and sizes, who were hard working and eager to please. We had a total of eleven virgin actors to our Theatre in the Dockyard, who have proved an asset to our society.

Events leading up to opening night were frustrating and rather disastrous, and with numerous cast shuffles, a fatal flu bug and a terrorist attack, we were feeling rather despondent at the Press Preview Performance. (Once again proving that a production with a ghost involved generally leads to ill luck!) Despite these events we had a positive feedback from the media, and this spurred us on to opening night.

The audiences were very receptive, which lifted the actors’ spirits, and their performances were superb. The cast of Maskerade were bonding fantastically, and a good time was had by all. Our thanks go out to the wonderful cast and crew, our committee, and anyone who helped in the running of the show. We are truly grateful.

The expenses for this production were high due to the various upgradings we did on the theatre. We had a chandelier made for the production which will remain a permanent feature to our theatre; the dressing rooms were 'dollied' up; and of course we finally managed to remove the stage carpet.

The run of Maskerade was a successful one, proving once again that a little determination can go a long way.
