REVIEW
FISH HOEK ECHO, 22 August 2002 - Extracts from review by Albert Lintvelt One seldom has the good luck to experience a one-man show, that exacting theatrical event after many years on stage. This show is nothing short of a fortune. Showbiz veteran and a master of the unexpected mischievous twist, the famous Nat King Cole song from Jeff truly becomes 'Unforgettable', and his 'New York, New York' could be straight off Broadway. Equally unforgettable is his hilarious off-beat Pavarotti skit which results in magical miming and timing. And more of his captivating impersonations are to be seen in his Al Jolson, Elvis Presley and Mick Jagger. Then there is the touch of pathos shining through his clown songs. Representing the females in this 'one-man' show is the all of nine-years-old Axene, a young lady who has already released a CD. A born singer, she delivers her songs with energy across the entire stage with a mature voice and personality rarely found in one so young. One will certainly follow her budding career with great expectation as expressed in her highlight song, 'I'm walking on Sunshine'. Jeff's serious finale, 'The Greatest Love of All', proves the expertise, dexterity and passion of his amazing stagecraft. Despite the title, this is a versatile family show that does not limp in the least it rather frisks and frolics energetically. |

| JEFF BATT |
|
|
Jeff Batt has been a professional entertainer since the tender age of 19 and through the
years has developed a unique brand of humour and singing that has entertained family
audiences around the world.
Starting his career 33 years ago - 'Phew!, is it that long?' - he soon became a popular entertainer on the busy European cabaret circuit, and took his act to such far afield places as Sicily, The Gambia, Las Palmas and Malta. He had the great honour of performing for Her Majesty's Armed Forces in Belfast, Germany and the Falkland Islands during the Falklands War. Luckily he survived and reportedly inflicted little damage to the warring parties of either side. He has performed with Legendary Artistes such as Shirley Bassey, Englebert Humperdink, Tom Jones, The Drifters, The Searchers, Diana Dors, Ken Dodd, Norman Wisdom and many more in such illustrious venues as London's Talk of the Town and the London Palladium. Moving to South Africa in 1989 to 'find himself'... he got lost! And after declining repeated offers from the S A Government to take his act on a permanent overseas tour - he has now settled happily with his wife Belinda and son Leo in Simon's Town. Jeff is enjoying his 'come back' into the local scene with his acting and new one man show. Well yes, there is the very talented Axene - but only one man, Ta-Da!
Premiering his show for Anchor Players, of which Jeff is 'Chairman of Vice', he has plans
to tour his show and unleash his talents on the unwitting residents of the Cape - so
watch out! |

| AXENE |
|
|
Axene has appeared at top venues all over the Western Cape, including the upmarket Ratanga
Junction. Everywhere she goes she amazes audiences with her sensational singing voice,
having the power and vocal range that most singers would envy this girl is going places
and the most amazing thing is that she is just 9 years old! Little wonder that she is
'... walking on sunshine'. A born singer, she delivers her songs with telling movements
across the entire stage, with a mature voice and personality rarely found in one so young.
A collection of songs performed by Axene are now available on CD.
