WINNERS ALL - BUT SOL IS HONOURED WITH STANDING OVATION

Almost making it a Valentine's event, the annual Cape Times award ceremony took place on February 13 at the Little Theatre in Orange Street. The buzz was great and mercifully the temperature was kinder than it has been for many years.

Chairman Graham Boxall, in his farewell speech as outgoing chairman of the panel, opened the proceedings and Cape Times editor John Scott added his ongoing support to the high standards of amdram theatre in the Western Cape. The Festival Players, under astute direction of Teddy Davies, provided scintillating musical entertainment, plus a small excerpt from dear Sol Rodsell's favourite play, Gaslight, in tribute and farewell to this retiring member of the panel of 30-years standing.

The emotional standing ovation for Sol was an appropriate close to the first half of the evening. Sol, we'll miss you. The ceremony then got underway, with Sol presenting the awards.

A heartening factor this year was the number of awards and nominations for young and rising stars. After all the drum-rolls, tears and laughter, the results are:
